I’m always on the hunt for the next best coffee beans to try. As I had a preference for darker roast coffee, I heard that Copper Moon was a specialist in this type of roast.

My Star Rating
Before I start talking about anything else, you’re probably first wondering about the taste. I could taste the strong notes and the rich and bold flavors as soon as I took the first sip. Also, I must say, that there was a really powerful aroma too, which was fantastic.
Carefully selected, these beans were obviously roasted to perfection and created an interesting and intense dark flavor profile that I was eager to keep drinking.
The main notes that I could taste were a herbal and smoky taste, dark chocolate, and an earthy aroma. Personally, I loved this combination.
I did find that these beans were slightly oily, but for the most part, I didn’t think that it impacted the taste too much.
In my opinion, the packaging is one of the best things about this one. The dark look, with the space detailing, makes it look amazing. Most coffee beans packaging is pretty bland and unexciting, so I loved that this one had some character!
The Sumatra Blend
Sumatran blend coffee is some of the nicest coffee you can taste. But what is Sumatra blend coffee? And what makes it different?
Sumatra coffee originates in Indonesia (specifically the Sumatra region if you couldn’t guess) and captures the wild jungle taste.
You can often notice sumatran coffee beans compared to many others due to their deep green color before being roasted.
Sumatran coffee is wet-hulled, which leaves the coffee moist for a longer amount of time. After harvesting, the farmers pulp the coffee cherries, and the beans are left to ferment overnight.
The next day, the beans are washed and partially dried. This is where the wet-hulling, known locally as “giling basah,” takes place. During wet-hulling, the beans are still relatively moist, with a higher water content compared to the traditional dry-hulling process.
The high altitude, ample rainfall, and volcanic soil also contribute to the coffee’s distinct flavor, as well as its heavy body and low acidity. Additionally, the beans’ exposure to humidity during the wet-hulling process creates a distinct richness to the cup.
This practice contributes to the unique flavor and aroma of Sumatra blend coffee. I must say, when comparing Sumatra with other coffees in a blind taste test, I could really tell which one it was.
My Brewing Recommendations
In my opinion, to fully appreciate the flavors of Sumatra Coffee Blend, it is best brewed using methods that show off its flavors the best.
French press, pour-over, and using an espresso machine are all popular brewing methods for this blend.
The slow extraction of the French press and pour-over methods allows the coffee’s rich flavors to shine, while I think that the espresso method brings out the blend’s complexity and creates a perfect base for milk-based coffee drinks, like lattes and cappuccinos.
I personally used the pour-over and my trusty espresso machine for this one, and it worked a treat!

Overall, I really enjoyed this coffee. Although it’s not the greatest coffee ever, it’s quite close to it and provides you with fantastic flavor notes at a reasonable price.
